So here’s the thing. Events over the past few years have changed my day-to-day life to such an extent that I just don’t seem motivated to post to my blog as much as in previous years, but I am still sewing and knitting (and crocheting and weaving, too.) I seem to only get around to posting pictures to Facebook. If you’re a Facebook friend, then you’ve seen them. If not and if you’re interested, I’ve started to make the albums public so you can see what’s finished. Pictures of my latest projects—finished over the past nine months—because it took me that long to get the pictures postable—can be seen here.

And since we’re catching up, here are Jackets and Shirts and Skirts.

Oh…and let’s not forget the dogs.  There’s Jake waiting for dinner and Jake iPhone pictures. It’s not that we don’t love our Mandy, but she’s just a hard one to photograph—because she moves and most pictures end up with doggy-devil-eyes.

This morning I saw a post on a mail list that was very funny and attributed to Andy Rooney, and forwarded to lots of friends.  In doing a little research I find it was a take on a piece entitled “In Praise of Older Women” written by Frank Kaiser sometime earlier than April 2003 on the Suddenly Senior website and Andy Rooney wanted no part of it, according to Mr. Kaiser, and Susan Reimer of the Baltimore Sun who wrote “Cranky Andy Rooney doesn’t like you all that much – take it from me.” That said, since this text is different, and a bit more tongue in cheek, I share it with you.  Is it by Andy Rooney?  I don’t know.  If you can cite an official source by all means, do!

As I grow in age, I value women over 40 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why:

A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night and ask, ‘What are you thinking?’ She doesn’t care what you think.

If a woman over 40 doesn’t want to watch the game, she doesn’t sit around whining about it. She does something she wants to do, and it’s usually more interesting.

Women over 40 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won’t hesitate to shoot you if they think they can get away with it.

Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it’s like to be unappreciated.

Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over 40.

Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 40 is far sexier than her younger counterpart.

Older women are forthright and honest. They’ll tell you right off if you are a jerk, if you are acting like one. You don’t ever have to wonder where you stand with her.

Yes, we praise women over 40 for a multitude of reasons. Unfortunately, it’s not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed, hot woman over 40, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year old waitress. Ladies, I apologize.

For all those men who say, ‘Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free? here’s an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage. Why? Because women realize it’s not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage!

In July, Apple finally opened the App Store in iTunes where third-party developers could sell their applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The number of apps has been growing daily. I have to admit I was disappointed when a FileMaker compatible app showed up at the hefty price of $99. I had a discussion with the developer who cited development costs as the reason for having the most expensive application in the business category. But another developer came through with a simple application that allows import of .csv data, searching and sorting. CSV Touch is perfect to let me carry my lists of yarn shops, as well as sewing patterns, and I can search and sort. Perfect.

There are lots of free apps, too. And here’s where the Tech and Fiberly really converge. Quilt to Go has released StitchMinder, a stitch counting utility that allows you to track rows completed, pattern rows, increases, and decreases. Now I have to admit that I live dangerously and don’t use a counter, but I just think the very idea of StitchMinder is great and may have to download it just on general principles.

It was a last minute decision, and I’ve spent two days, but here is the new home of my blog.

The archives are all here, but though your comments didn’t stay associated with the posts, I do have them and want you to know that they are appreciated.

No pictures with this post, but now that I’m done with the techie stuff, it’s back to what’s important.

That’s what the doctor said. I have knitter’s elbow (aka “tennis elbow” but I don’t play tennis…) or bursitis and something going on with the tendon in my right hand between the middle and ring fingers. So it’s ice three times a day for each and no knitting for a week.

Ack!
