It’s Evelyn’s Birthday

Well, almost…November 5, if we’re being precise. But her gift was done in time, despite the procrastination because of the website-geeky-picture things I’ve been working on, and is winging its way to New York.

The 3-in-1 Backpack is from Lisa Lam’s A Bag for All Reasons. This was my first time working with laminated cotton and I was a little concerned about the fact that I’m not the perfect sew-ist and have mastered the use of the seam ripper.  But it was more forgiving than I thought and those times when seams were ripped didn’t show, with the help of the Schmetz Microtex Sharp sewing machine needles.

I used hidden magnetic snaps, which I enclosed using fabric squares and fabric glue instead of sewing them in. I actually got the idea from fiberly friend and extraordinary sew-ist Kathryn, who made two raincoats and used the hidden snaps instead of buttons for the closures.

This has been the year of bag-making
