New England and New York October 2005

The weather wasn’t great but time with friends in Boston, Cape Cod and New York made it worth the trip.

After landing in Providence, RI, we hopped in our rental car and headed for The Inn at Sandwich Center on Cape Cod. We were greeted by innkeeper Jan Preus. We enjoyed a great stay in the Robert Morse room and the home cooked breakfasts each morning were delicious.

Our Cape Cod visit took us to several galleries including Damselfly Studio owned at the time by Karyn Frances Gray, longtime friend and artist. Though Karyn has long since closed her gallery and had to stop painting for the most part, you can see some her art, including some lovely pieces that we own in our virtual gallery.

We also made new friends of Dave McDermott and Yuki Matsumoto at McDermott Glass Studio, where we were happily greeted by their two friendly boxer dogs. We brought home (or rather Dave shipped) two pieces including this wavy bowl.

Our next stop was Boston and visiting with a friend from Apple, Clark Warner. Clark was a great host chauffeuring us around the area and cooking some great meals, with some help from Mitalene.

One of the highlights of the visit was a walking tour of Boston’s North End, led by Michele Topor. In spite of the tropical conditions in October in Boston, we had a great time and learned a lot and would highly recommend the tour if you find yourself in Boston.

The last part of our trip took us to New York City, just in time for the worst rains of the season. Lucky us. Fortunately it cleared up the last day and we spent it with Patty’s best-friend-since-high-school Evelyn Nunlee and her boyfriend/chauffeur Daryl Bornstein, exploring Connecticut and upstate New York. We found a lovely yarn shop in Nyack, NY—Knitting Nation and were treated a fabulous meal at Equus at The Castle in Tarrytown, NY.
