In 2005, Patty took a trip to Chicago spend a weekend with someone who I had never actually met or spoken to. We had met through a sewing-related mailing list and found we had more in common than just sewing—military brats, CSU grads, knitting and sewing.
In June, Tom took a similar trip, with me along for the ride, when we headed to Rhode Island to spend five days with a writer he’s been mentoring and with whom he has co-authored a book books—but had never met or spoken to on the phone.
After a late night arrival in Boston, the next morning we took Amtrak to Providence, where we were met by Leo, his wife Jean, and her sister Sara. And so began five lovely days in and about West Greenwich, Providence, and Newport. We cruised the bay checking out lighthouses. We visited a rum distillery and vineyard (neither of which impressed Tom), and discovered a great restaurant, Malt, in Newport.
Oh, and there were dogs (and a skunked cat). Sara has two Silken Windhounds – Tirian and Bodie, who gave us our puppy fix.
