Patty shared her birthday with Granddaddy, which sometimes falls on Father’s Day. In 1970, the first summer back in the states, we visited Wilmington, where the Piggly-Wiggly had a drawing for a birthday cake and guess who won?
On a visit in 1987, Patty’s parents took Patty and Tom to see Grandmama, who was in a nursing home after a suffering a stroke. Daddy said that she sometimes thought he was her brother. When asked, “Mama, do you know who I am?” Grandmama replied, “Well who do you want to be today?” Good save!
