Knitting Magazines
It’s been a week of magazines. VK arrived a few days ago, IK arrived yesterday, and I happened on two new online magazines, Knotions and Twisted Collective.
Twist Collective debuted this month. While the magazine is free, the patterns featured are not, but are available for download from their online store. Like many of the print magazines, the patterns are divided into themes, which take you page by page through photo layouts of the designs. To get the full story of the design, hover your mouse over the pictures to get a pop-up that will take you to pattern details. Twisted Collective is a well-thought out online magazine, offering the convenience of online viewing with the layout and feel of a print magazine.
knotions magazine, which launched on Monday. I happened on it when after finding Candlelight, a short lace jacket by Janine La Cras, aka Guernseygal. Her latest pattern, the Autumn Leaves Cardi is available free and featured in knotions magazine. It is a smaller scale production, which includes archived patterns from the no-longer-with-us- MagKnits. In addition to, Janine’s pattern I was intrigued by the Casual Bootcut Pants by young designer Phoenix Bess. The magazine featured a companion article written by mom, Beth Bess, which discusses how to pick a yarn for knit pants. Quite an auspicious start.
There was a time when I stopped by subscription to Vogue Knitting because they’d feature only a few patterns that were just a little to “vogue” for my tastes, but they’ve redeemed themselves with some quite nice designs over the past couple of years. The latest issue had a lot that I really like, and some – not-so-much. But still, it’s time to renew.
I have every issue of Interweave Knits, and most are real keepers. Though not as many designs were “must-dos” (that list is too long, anyway), there were some that I really liked.
For both the print magazines, it was a month for texture. Here are my picks.
